Adaptogens
Adaptogens are non-addictive natural substances such as mushrooms or herbs which are believed to be able to help the body achieve homeostasis and adapt to stress. Most are well known in the traditional cultures where the plants grow, and often have a long history of use not only for increasing endurance and stamina but also for improving immunity, longevity, mental acuity, and sexual function. Often used as healing herbs for stress, fatigue, glandular support, and hormonal balance, some of the best and most popular adaptogens include Ginseng (from Asia), Rhodiola (long used in Russia and Nordic countries), Ashwagandha (a staple in the Ayurvedic medical traditions of India), Maca (from the Peruvian Andes), and Relora and Astragalus (well-known to Traditional Chinese Medicine).
