UMARY Hyaluronic Acid is a dietary supplement produced in Mexico that was recently the subject of a public advisory by Health Canada for allegedly containing large amounts of a prescription painkiller. While sold in Mexico, the USA, and other markets, it is not currently available for sale in Canada.

Why is Umary not available in Canada?
Dietary supplements which make health claims (like, "Helps to relieve pain due to osteoarthritic symptoms" or "Protects against cartilage deterioration from chronic joint diseases") need to be licensed and approved for sale by Health Canada prior to being approved for sale here. This process includes establishing that the products are safe and effective and their ingredients are accurately and comprehensively described.
While the manufacturer of this product did obtain such a license in the fall of 2023 (NPN 80126777), the company has indicated that the product was not sold in Canada. Canadians who purchase online are most likely receiving product shipped directly from Mexico or the United States. Health Canada has since revoked that Canadian license (as of 2024-03-24) after receiving the initial news of the results of an independent laboratory's tests.
