Product Notes:
There may be periods in our life when we are feeling too anxious, nervous, or restless to function effectively (whether at work, or while parenting, studying, or training) and we feel we need something to tide us over while awaiting some development, or as we work on getting or counseling or mastering relaxation techniques.
Of course, our Western pharmaceutical industry has developed many classes of Sedative, Hypnotic or Anxiolytic drugs for such purposes over the past 150 years. However, they not only require a prescription (if you even have a doctor), but also tend to have numerous side effects, including fostering dependence and addiction, and making us feeling even 'foggier.'
Fortunately, there are several types traditional herbal medicines with comparable anti-anxiety, calming, and/or sleep-restoring effects with much better safety profiles that continue to be relied upon in many European and Asian countries, including the four featured here:
- St. John's Wort, which influences the reuptake of certain neurotransmitters associated with mood, especially serotonin;
- Rhodiola, an adaptogen which can help counteract the effects of stress;
- Albizia Julibrissin (aka Silk Tree or Happiness Tree) bark, which is widely used in some Asian countries like Taiwan to treat insomnia and depression; and,
- Passion Flower, another longstanding herbal remedy for reducing anxiety, stress, and sleeplessness.
