Slippery Elm powder is highly mucilaginous, meaning, when it gets wet, it forms a kind of gel provides an extremely soothing coating for irritated mucous membranes. It's also reputed to be able to help stimulate the body's own production of mucus, to help protect the gastrointestinal tract from excessive stomach acid.
Slippery Elm comes from the inner bark of trees native to parts of North America, where it's been an herbal remedy for hundreds of years for digestive ailments and throat irritations. It's also become part of the Ayurvedic tradition, as a gentle, rejuvenating and strengthening tonic to support general well-being, vitality and health. It's sweet in the Rasa taste energy, and cooling in action according to Virya, and decreases excess Vata and Pitta, while increasing Kapha constitutional doshic energies.

Ingredients:
Organic Slippery Elm Bark Powder (Ulmus fulva).
No added flavours, fillers, preservatives, additives, sweeteners, carriers, stabilizers or excipients.
Gluten-Free, Kosher, Vegan, Non-GMO.
Suggested Usage:
Take 1 teaspoon once or twice daily in warm water as a supportive, nutritive tonic. Or add 1 teaspoon powder to coconut water, or your favorite juice. Or mix it into your favorite smoothie recipe to create a nourishing, antioxidant rich smoothie.
Alternatively, use it to thicken cereal, puddings or raw superfood desserts.
You can also make a tea-like infusion by adding 1 teaspoon of Slippery Elm powder to 6 to 8 oz of hot water. Let the water sit for 10 minutes to allow the compounds to be released. Add some honey or a teaspoon of Organic Traditions' Yacon Syrup or Coconut Palm Sugar to add sweetness, and cinnamon, ginger and cloves are also a nice addition.
To create a throat-soothing or digestive-soothing tea, boil 1 or 2 teaspoons of Organic Traditions' flax seeds per 1 cup of water and add a teaspoon of Slippery Elm powder.
Refrigeration not required. Store in a cool, dry, dark place.
