Product Notes:
Every year, moose, elk, and deer grow new antlers, and early on in their development, these antlers produce a soft, brown velvet-like covering which feeds nutrients to the white antlers beneath as they grow. In the normal course of events, this "velvet" then gets shed and/or rubbed off on tree branches by the elk themselves, in the fall. But people have been harvesting and consuming this velvet from elk, deer, or moose for thousands of years as nutritional support for a number of health conditions, particularly in Traditional Chinese medicine, and Western medicine is just now catching up and beginning to recognize the health benefits of antler velvet.
The modern harvesting process of antlers is harmless to elks. Antlers are usually cut from an elk, giving two portions: a detached part and an attached part. The detached part is used for nutritional purpose due to its richness in vital components, whereas the attached part keeps growing on a living elk and gives new antlers every year.
