Slippery Elm is a soothing herb that's consumed in many forms, often as a 'demulcent,' to calm irritation of the stomach and help relieve gastritis and diarrhea.
Product Notes:
Slippery Elm not only provides a mucus-like substance itself (it's a mucilage, something that becomes a slick gel when mixed with water) to coat the stomach and intestines and supplies antioxidants that can help relieve inflammatory bowel conditions, but it also stimulates nerve endings in the gastrointestinal tract to increase mucus secretion there, which can protect the GI tract from excessive acid.
Also known as Red, Moose, or Indian Elm, or as either Ulmus fulva or Ulmus rubra for its scientific designation, Slippery Elm is a small tree native to North America. Its inner bark rind has been part of traditional herbal medicine for well over a century, and was used by North Americans and early settlers as a survival food.
Ingredients:
Each capsule contains: 400 mg Slippery Elm (Ulmus fulva) (Bark)
Non-Medicinal Ingredients: Capsule (gelatin, water), Magnesium Stearate (vegetable source).
Suggested Usage:
Adults: Take 2 capsules 3 times daily, with water. Because this coats the digestive tract, some suggest you take it 2 hours before or after any other medicines or medicinal herbs you may be taking, because it may slow their absorption. Store in a cool, dry place.
Warnings:
Do not use slippery elm supplements if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
