Product Notes:

Magnesium is a mineral that is essential for proper muscle and tissue formation. It is involved in over 300 chemical reactions throughout the body and serves as a cofactor in numerous metabolic processes. An estimated 42.9% of all Canadians are deficient in magnesium. In addition, men have a higher prevalence of deficient intakes than women.

Furthermore, dietary calcium-to-magnesium ratios have been increasing for decades, especially as we eat more processed food, raising concerns that an imbalanced intake of these functionally-related minerals may have a negative impact on bone, cardiovascular, and/or metabolic health.

Moreover, as we age, not only does magnesium intake typically decline, but so does intestinal absorption of magnesium, while urinary loss of the mineral tends to increase.

Last but not least, as a leading magnesium researcher notes, the U.S. recommended daily allowances are based on people of average weight, but the need for it goes up if we are overweight, so although our dietary intake may reach the 300 mg mark, we likely still need between about one and three hundred more mg a day, lest we start depleting it from our muscles and bones.

Why Mag Glycinate?

Unlike other formulations, the magnesium in Mag Glycinate is designed to:

• Be absorbed via a mechanism similar to that used by amino acids,
which differs from typical mineral ion absorption
• Not be dependent on stomach acidity for absorption
• Improve bowel tolerance of magnesium

Mag Glycinate may also help prevent pregnancy-related nocturnal leg muscle cramps. Unlike many other formulations, the type of magnesium in Mag Glycinate (magnesium bis-glycinate) is absorbed via a mechanism similar to that used by amino acids; it is not dependent on stomach acid for absorption.
