If you want to purée tomatoes or baby foods on a fairly regular basis, you may be considering getting a food blender, but if you're only going to do fairly small amounts, a manual Food Mill may be a far better value for you and will take up far less room.
Product Notes:
This stainless steel device is easy to use: simply attach the appropriate disc for the task (whether mashing, grinding and puréeing), suspend the mill on top of a large bowl (with the long handle on one side and two hanging loops on the other), place the fruits or vegetables or cooked food into the hopper, and crank the handle. The output will be very smooth -- it separates the skin and seeds, which stay on top of the unit (for you to either use elsewhere or pitch, depending on your preference). It can even mash potatoes. The whole unit is dishwasher safe, and it comes gift boxed.
Prepare fresh, healthy, full-flavored dishes in no time, including purées, soups, sauces, even desserts. Imagine homemade tomato sauce, applesauce, apple butter, fruit preserves, seedless berry, jams, sorbets, soups, mashed potatoes! No need to peel and core; simply place cooked food into the mill, then turn the crank to rotate the blade over the disc, forcing the food through the holes, and capturing the solids (seeds, pits, and cores) above.
Extra Features: Long, comfortable handle; Two brackets stabilize the mill over a pot or bowl; Non-reactive, sturdy construction, 18/10 stainless steel; All parts dishwasher safe.
Exchange of discs is easy: Press bar down and turn to one side. This will lift entire handle.
From underneath, push out current disc and replace with desired disc. Insert bottom end of handle into the center of the disc. Press bar down and turn to line up with holders. To remove or attach wire scraper, push together wire loops and pull off/push down.
Tip: For a continuous flow, reverse the direction of the blade frequently to reposition the food. When preparing large amounts, consider removing solids when the mill appears too full. Wash out immediately after each use.
Fresh Solutions: Efficiently separate (strain) the skins and seeds from fruits and vegetables. The ideal method to make the finest purees and sauces:
Tomatoes: Purees tomatoes without the need for peeling, coring, or seeding -- leaving seeds and skins behind, for a delightful tomato sauce or soup.
Apples: Separates the peels and seeds of cooked apples -- resulting in the smoothest applesauce, not too chunky, not too liquid. No need to peel or core the apples, just cook them cut in quarters.
Fruits: Gently eliminates seeds and skins for the best desserts.
What's Included in the Box:
Set includes 3 stainless steel discs, which are easy to change and which disassemble for easy cleaning:
Fine (3 mm diameter holes): for fine sauces, preserves and baby food, and velvety dishes.
Medium (5 mm diameter holes): for applesauce, thick soups and tomato sauce, or rice potatoes for gnocchi.
Coarse (8 mm diameter holes): for salsa, mashed potatoes, Spaetzle, or any time you want a chunkier consistency.
Dimensions: Main part of mill in 7.6 inches (19 cm) in diameter; the whole thing comes in a box that's about 13 inches long (including the handles), 9 inches across, and 3-1/2 inches deep.
Warnings:
Always check for an occasional seed, pit, or other hard particle that may have escaped into the dish, especially when making baby food.
