Citrulline Malate is a potent combination of L-Citrulline, an amino acid which can help blood flow, bound to malate, an organic salt which our bodies use for energy production. It may be of great benefit for boosting physical fitness and athletic performance, especially in high-intensity aerobic exercise with short rest periods.

Product Notes:

Citrulline Malate is probably the most common and best researched form of L-Citrulline in sports supplements. Its two components are quite natural: citrulline appears in watermelons, and our bodies produce some L-Citrulline on their own; while malic acid is in apples, grapes, and some other fruits, and we use its organic salt malate as an intermediary in the citric acid / TCA / Krebs cycle to release stored energy.

Of course, L-Citrulline has a number of potential health benefits for other demographics, as well: including reducing blood pressure, improving blood flow and other cardiovascular problems, and improving symptoms of erectile dysfunction (ED).

But for those engaged in intensive athletic training and performance, it may be able to help increase both aerobic and anaerobic endurance by enabling more blood and oxygen to pump through the muscles and heart. (One of its principal mechanisms for doing so is by being transformed into L-Arginine in the kidneys, which is important for increasing nitric oxide (NOx) production in the body, which can dilate blood vessels to improve blood flow.)

Other potential benefits, particularly when combined with malate like this, include: more energy - and less fatigue - thanks to increased ATP (adenosine triphosphate) production; increased vascularity and muscle pumps; and reduced lactic acid build-ups, muscle cramps, and chance of injury.

Performance

Citrulline malate is the primary ingredient in the sport supplement Nugenix Total-T which is heavily advertised in the USA. Marketed there as a testosterone booster for men, in addition to citrulline malate, that formula also contains smaller amounts of Tribulus, fenugreek, vitamin B12, B6 and zinc.
