"Methylation" is one of those natural protective functions our bodies quietly carry out in the background without our realizing it: when our cells break down Methionine (an amino acid from food protein) to produce essential nucleic acids, fats and high-energy bonds, a different type of amino acid, Homocysteine, initially gets produced in the process, and most of it in turn usually gets rapidly metabolized either by being converted into cysteine with the help of vitamin B6, or by being regenerated into a more usable form of methionine with the help of vitamin B12 and folate.
