Kyolic (which gets the initial part of its name from the Japanese word for "strong") and its premiere Aged Garlic Extract product originated in Japan as a parallel nutritional and herbal supplement division of the Wakunaga Pharmaceutical Company in the 1950s, whose visionary founders realized that would also be needed to help people recover their strength and help their immune systems contend with the harsh post-war conditions there. They developed a process of naturally aging garlic for two years to minimize its odor and side effects while preserving all its healthful properties. They established a U.S. division in 1972, and grow all their own garlic on certified organic farms in California.
